ProgramsFood Vouchers A food voucher issued by Douglas County Social Services or Washoe Tribal Social Services provides clients with once-a-month food assistance to augment their current food supply. In addition to receiving food once a month, clients can come by once a week as needed for smaller allotments as available. Parking Lot Distribution Receive additional food from the Food Closet by attending a Parking Lot Distribution one Saturday of each month from 8:00-10:00 am. Recipients are asked to complete a one-page intake form. There are no income requirements. 2022 Schedule: 4/23, 5/21, 6/18, 7/23, 8/20, 9/17, 10/15 Senior Commodities (CSFP) Eligible residents 60 and older can receive additional food assistance through the Food Bank of Northern Nevada. CSFP info and application here, here, here and here. Senior Commodities is held the fourth Tuesday of each month from 12:30 pm – 1:30 pm in the Food Closet parking lot. There are income, age and residency requirements. Sign-ups are done on the day of distribution. 2022 Schedule: 1/25, 2/22, 3/22, 4/26, 5/24, 6/28, 7/26, 8/23, 9/27, 10/25, 11/22, 12/27 The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) TEFAP is a Federal program that supplements the diets of people in need, by providing them with emergency food and nutrition assistance. Food is distributed based on family size and income and varies each month. You can find more information about TEFAP here and here. Mobile Harvest This program is hosted by Food Bank of Northern Nevada and takes place on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 12:45-1:45 pm in the Food Closet parking lot. Recipients are asked to complete a one page intake form. There are no income requirements. Holiday Assistance The Food Closet provides holiday meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas and is the host site for Project Santa Claus who provides gifts to residents struggling during the holiday season. |
