The Food Closet has been serving Douglas County, NV since 1989 providing assistance with groceries to those in need. Families that use the Food Closet are qualified through Douglas County Social Service or Washoe Tribe Social Services. Clients are required to provide income information, Social Security information for themselves and any dependents and must be residents of Douglas County.
The Food Closet operates through contributions made by Carson Valley residents, local service groups, churches, businesses and local food merchants. We are open to clients Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m. We also accept donations at those times. Monetary donations are greatly appreciated year 'round. During the holiday season, we provide dinners at Thanksgiving and Christmas for over 1,000 people.
