The Carson Valley Community Food Closet is a non-profit organization founded in 1989 to provide supplemental food assistance and work toward food security in Douglas County. Initially established by Douglas County Social Services and the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, it has grown significantly over the years, moving from a garage to multiple locations before constructing its own facility in 2019. As the primary provider of food assistance in Douglas County, the Food Closet distributes over a million pounds of food annually in partnership with the Food Bank of Northern Nevada (FBNN). It serves the community through monthly and weekly food distributions, offering groceries, produce, meat, dairy, hygiene items, and pet food. The Food Closet also collaborates with local organizations such as Community Health Workers, Douglas County Social Services, and the Washoe Tribe to provide additional support services. Key Programs Include: ✔️ Monthly Food Voucher ✔️ Home Delivery ✔️ Senior Support ✔️ Outdoor Market ✔️ Prescription Pantry ✔️ TEFAP (Emergency Food Assistance Program) ✔️ Saturday Parking Lot Distributions ✔️ Mobile Harvest – FBNN Host Site ✔️ Kitchen/Learning Center – Budget-Friendly Cooking Through community partnerships and volunteer efforts, the Food Closet continues to fight hunger and support those in need across Douglas County.
