Food Vouchers

A food voucher issued by Douglas County Social Services or Washoe Tribal Social Services provides clients with once-a-month food assistance to augment their current food supply.

In addition to receiving food once a month, clients can come by once a week as needed for smaller allotments as available.


Senior Commodities (CSFP)
Eligible residents 60 and older can receive additional food assistance through the Food Bank of Northern Nevada.

Senior Commodities is held the fourth Tuesday of each month from 1:00 pm – 1:30 pm in the Food Closet parking lot. There are income, age and residency requirements.  Sign-ups are done on the day of distribution.

1/26, 2/23, 3/23, 4/27, 5/25, 6/22,
7/27, 8/24, 9/28, 10/26, 11/23, 12/28


The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP)
TEFAP is a Federal program that supplements the diets of people in need, by providing them with emergency food and nutrition assistance.  Food  is distributed based on family size and income and varies each month.

Mobile Harvest
This program is hosted by Food Bank of Northern Nevada and takes place on the 1st Tuesday of each month from 12:45-1:45 pm in the Food Closet parking lot. Recipients are asked to complete a one page intake form.  There are no income requirements.  For more information, read here.

Community Pet Pantry
In collaboration Douglas County Animal Services the Food Closet can provide dry or wet - cat or dog food with a food voucher.  *Items are subject to availability. 

Holiday Assistance
The Food Closet provides holiday meals for Thanksgiving and Christmas and is the host site for Project Santa Claus who provides gifts to residents struggling during the holiday season.
